Drier: The drier, also known as the receiver-drier, is kind of the safety grab for your system. The compressor is only assumed to squeeze together the gas form of your refrigerant. However, there's always a scope that some liquid could make it back that far. The drier catches this liquid before it can destroy your compressor. Because even the minute leak or remiss fitting can introduce water moisture to the system, the drier absorbs this chemically, using what's called a moisture-less. The drier also has a strainer that catches any binder that might be in there.
