Rajasthan is the most arid state of India. However Rajasthan has a large number of lakes mostly artificial as well as historical, tradition of conserving natural resources and beautiful nature. The lakes in Rajasthan can divided into types of saline and fresh water lakes.


There are some lakes which we mentioned below.

1. Lake Pichola

Lake Pichola is one of the popular lake of Rajasthan and this lake is the oldest and largest lake of Udaipur. Lake Pichola is perfectly located on the Jag Niwas Even Jag Mandir is also located on an Island .This lake is the heart of Udaipur and it is the main attraction of Udaipur. Lake is one the most crowded place Udaipur. Everyday thousand of Indian and Foreign tourists visit in this lake. Most of the famous and expensive hotels and resorts are situated on this Lake for tourists. Boat rides are also available and the best time to visit at this Lake between 9.00 AM to 6.00 PM. Either, you can take the Palace on Wheels to reach the destination.

2. Pushkar Lake

Pushkar Lake is considered as sacred lake Hindu scriptures. This lake is one of the most prominent spots of pilgrimage as well as the site of the world famous Pushkar Fair. It is one the major tourist destinations in India. The main thing about this lake is that, this lake has 52 bathing ghats and 500 temples which attracts both the tourists Indian and Foreign. Pushkar is one of the oldest city in India, which is located northwest of Ajmer. Pushkar Lake is one of most crowded destination of Rajasthan and the best time to visit at this lake in the month of October and November and the major attractions are Animal Trading, Horse and camel races, Cultural programs, Hot air ballooning and many more.

3. Sambhar Lake

Sambhar Lake is situated in the Indian state of Rajasthan and this lake is also known Salt Lake. This lake is the largest Lake in India and this lake is spread over 24000 hectares. The major attraction at this lake in Rajasthan are Salt laboratory and salt Museum. This lake produce around 196000 tons salt every year. This lake is 60 Km away from Jaipur. The best time to visit at Sambhar lake between the month of October to March, avoid travelling in the month of June to September, as this is the monsoon season, you are not able to witness much of salt production.

4. Ana Sagar Lake

Ana Sagar is the biggest lake of Ajmer, and it is the heart of Ajmer. Peaceful Environment of this lake attracts the tourists every year. This lake is surrounded by Daulat Bagh Garden. This lake is only 13 km from Ajmer city. This lake is one of the most favorite tourist spot in Ajmer. Every day thousands of tourists visit in this lake. This lake dries up every year in the summer season so it is best to visit during the sunset because it enhance the views of this lake and you can enjoy more and mostly tourists prefer to visit this destination between the month of October to March.

5. Jaisamand Lake

Jaisamand Lake is also known as Dhebar Lake. This lake is the second largest lake in Asia and it is located 48 km away from Jaipur. This lake has a graceful marble steps descending to water, you can enjoy the boat ride also. This lake offers a wonderful place to relax and lighten up. There are three island on the lake and it is surrounded by Jaisamand wildlife Sanctuary. The major attraction here is the marvelous dam and a temple which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The best time to visit at this lake in the month of November to March.
