Even in 2018, smoking weed still seems to get a pretty bad rep. While we can't help the negative bias towards cannabis, we can at least admit that there are a wide variety of fantastic benefits of smoking; even if they're not often advertised in mainstream media. For everything from weight loss to reducing depression, weed can be the first step for many towards a healthy lifestyle.

Weed and Managing Depression

While depression is still something that's hard to talk about, one of the largest benefits of smoking regularly is the added ability to be able to lower levels of symptoms of depression. Actually, in a study conducted by USC and even SUNY Albany, it was found that people who smoked daily had, on average, lower levels of depression than those who had never tried marijuana before. 

With chronic depression becoming a major health concern in North America, and the United States in particular, it's awesome that we have a healthy and natural alternative to potentially dangerous prescription drugs.


Weed's Ability to Help with Weight Management

With over half of Americans being overweight or obese, it's no wonder why weight loss is routinely one of the top goals of a new year. While the idea of marijuana actually helping you lose weight may feel counter-intuitive, especially if you suffer from a mean case of the munchies, there's actually a lot of support for the idea that weed can help those struggling to lose weight.

For those worried about being at risk, sparking up more often can help keep you out of the danger zone while you focus on your health.

Going along with improving your physical health, you also have to look at the benefits cannabis can have on your mental health. With stress being linked to a variety of deadly diseases, it's just as important to take care of your mental health as your physical health. Luckily, marijuana has a variety of benefits to help you manage your stress.

In a study by researchers in a Swiss prison, there's evidence to back up the claims that most already knew: Weed makes you calmer and significantly less stressed. When used in prisons, it tends to prevent violence and lower reported stress of inmates.

We all knew there was a variety of health benefits associated with smoking pot, but it's nice to finally see some solid science backing up the claims.
